What a great start to summer we have been having. After a rainy spring, the sun has arrived and we’ve been having blue skies and temps in the 80s. Given the heat wave in the rest of the country we are very lucky. We have been busy getting the everything in shape. Jessie, our young gardener, really has the flower beds looking great!
I took a hike up Great Pond Mountain, on the other side of the lake, and was so surprised to find ripe blueberries already. They are usually not here until the end of July or early August. What a sweet treat.
My lake neighbor, Fred, recently came home to find three baby raccoons abandoned on his road. After watching for hours, hoping Mom would return, he decided to rescue them. After spending a couple of weeks hand feeding every 6 hours, he located a wonderful wildlife rehabilitation center that specializes in nurturing wild animals and then releasing them back into the wild. We have high hopes for the little guys.
On my recent kayak trip up the Dead River portion of our lake, I came across a whole area of blooming water lilies. It seems kind of early for these as well. This portion of the paddle goes about 3 miles from the Inn. At the end you are treated to the waters from Hot Hole Stream racing into the lake. With the recent rains we have had, the little waterfall looked beautiful.
We have been busy with weddings already this summer. It is so much fun to help couples celebrate the start of a new phase of their lives. If you are planning a wedding for this fall or next year, just give us a call!
